Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced plans to strengthen Russia’s military. In a televised speech on Tuesday, Putin said, “We will continue to develop and strengthen the armed forces, taking into account the potential threats and risks.”
Putin added that Russia’s most recently tested intercontinental ballistic missile Sarmat will be deployed by the end of this year. Russia’s missiles are capable of carrying 10 or more nuclear weapons.
Russian forces are fighting in Ukraine. This force is also facing resistance in different places. Appreciating the troops’ fight in Ukraine, Putin said he was proud of their actions. He praised the Russian troops for their courage and professionalism in special military operations. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has said that sanctions imposed on Ukraine over its attacks on Ukraine could be lifted. “There is no doubt that we will become stronger,” Putin said of strengthening the military.
On February 24, Russia launched an offensive to overthrow the government of neighboring western Ukraine. Russia called it a “special military operation.” The Russian president has repeatedly claimed that Russia’s economy is on the right track in the face of unprecedented Western sanctions.
Meanwhile, some goods would reach the Russian territory of Kaliningrad by rail through Lithuania. The Baltic state of Lithuania has imposed sanctions on it. Russia has threatened to take “serious consequences” if the move is carried out. Russia’s Security Council chief Nikolai Patrushev warned yesterday.
Moscow says Russia will take action in response to Lithuania’s decision, which will have a negative impact on its people.
Lithuania’s decision to impose sanctions on some cargoes in Kaliningrad has sparked tensions with Russia. Russia’s new tensions with Europe came about four months after Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
