Russia-Ukraine War Live Updates: Biden says Putin is a war criminal, calls for war crimes trial over Bucha mass grave

Russia Ukraine War Crisis Live Updates: US President Joe Biden Monday called for a war crimes trial against Russian President Vladimir Putin and said he’d seek more sanctions after reported atrocities in Ukraine. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Buscha Monday and his government said 50 of some 300 bodies found in the village northwest of Kyiv city were victims of extra-judicial killings by Russian troops. Rejecting the claim, Russia said alleged “crimes” by its troops in Bucha were a “provocation” and no resident suffered. This comes after satellite images showed a 14-m-long trench dug into the grounds of a church where a mass grave was found.

Meanwhile, explosions were heard in the cities of Kherson and Odesa, in the south and sounded across Ukraine’s east. Heavy fighting has continued in Mariupol as Russian forces attempt to take the southeastern port city, British military intelligence said.

In other news, India’s palm oil imports jumped 21% in March from the previous month as traders moved to secure alternatives to sunflower oil that can no longer be bought from Ukraine, four dealers told Reuters. A poor soy oil crop in South America, however, has limited India’s ability to rely on that edible oil as a substitute for Ukrainian sunflower oil.
