NFL rumors: Jets RB hates idea of Ezekiel Elliott coming to New York

Ezekiel Elliott reportedly has the New York Jets on his wish list, and running back Breece Hall apparently pushed back against the idea.

At the start of the 2023 league year, the Dallas Cowboys officially released running back and former first-round pick Ezekiel Elliott from his contract. The move came as he carried a hefty cap hit for the 2023 season.

As for which team he would play for next, he reportedly has preferences. According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Elliott narrowed down his options to the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, and New York Jets as teams he is targeting.

Speaking of the Jets, running back Breece Hall sent out a now-deleted tweet, pushing back against the idea of the team adding the former Cowboys running back. Hall said, “I think we good over here,” while tagging fellow Jets running back Michael Carter, who replied “agreed.”

Elliott is coming off of a down 2022 campaign with the Cowboys. While he did record 876 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, he averaged just 3.8 yards per carry, the lowest of his entire seven year career.

As mentioned earlier, the Cowboys pivoted away from Elliott. Dallas will have Tony Pollard as their starting running back, and signed Ronald Jones, formerly Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Hall played like a Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite early on in the season for the Jets, as he ran for 463 yards and four touchdowns on 80 carries (5.8 yards per carry). But in Week 7, Hall tore his ACL, effectively ending his season.

As for Carter, he ran for 402 yards and three touchdowns on 114 carries, while catching 41-of-54 targets for 288 yards.

The Jets and the fanbase are currently waiting on the team to negotiate a trade with the Green Bay Packers for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who announced his intent to play for the AFC East team.

As for Elliott, he wants to make a decision as to where he wants to play next week, per Schefter. Whether it’s with the Jets, Bengals, Eagles remains to be seen.
