India wants to be a partner in flood management and relief

India wants to cooperate in flood management and relief activities in Bangladesh. The Indian Foreign Minister highlighted the flood situation in Bangladesh.

At that time, the Foreign Minister conveyed his sympathy and support to Bangladesh through Momen. Jayashankar said the northeastern part of India was also flooded. Bangladesh and India are exchanging data on flood management.
“Of course, we are partners in 54 common rivers,” he said. We have a common responsibility to protect and manage our rivers, including the Sundarbans. We must work together in these areas as part of our commitment to climate change. ‘

Indian Foreign Minister Jayashankar expressed interest in working with Bangladesh in new areas. He mentions potential sectors such as ‘artificial intelligence’, cyber security, startups and fintech.

Meanwhile, after the JCC meeting, the foreign ministries of the two countries issued a joint press release. It has been said that the relations between the two countries have gone beyond the strategic concept. This relationship has been termed as a ‘role model’ of bilateral and regional relations. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the closeness of the two countries despite the Kavid epidemic.

At the JCC meeting, the Foreign Ministers of Bangladesh and India agreed to work together to deepen and strengthen cooperation in the areas of common river and water resources management, information technology and cyber security, renewable energy, agriculture and food security, sustainable trade, climate change and disaster management. Both ministers have tasked their officials to expedite co-operation. They directed to focus more on finding sustainable solutions to the existing problems for the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries.

At the meeting, both sides reiterated the importance of safe, speedy and sustainable repatriation of people forcibly displaced from Rakhine State in Myanmar. The next meeting of the JCC will be held in Dhaka next year, the joint press release said.

Foreign Minister Momen will also meet Indian Vice President Venkaiah Naidu during his visit to New Delhi. After a three-day visit, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to return to Dhaka on Monday evening.
