Guterres is going to Russia to stop Putin

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is leaving for Russia on April 26 to end the Russia-Ukraine war. During his visit, he will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin on ending the war. The matter was first reported by Russia on Friday. International media outlets BBC and Al Jazeera reported the matter in separate reports.

A spokesman for the UN Secretary-General’s Office, Eri Kaneko, said Guterres hoped the visit would lead to talks that would end the war and bring peace to Ukraine.

Russia’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told local media that the UN secretary general would arrive in Moscow to meet with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He will also be received by President Vladimir Putin.

Antonio Guterres has called on Russia to allow civilians and troops trapped in Mariupol to evacuate safely.
