Israel has launched airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. Israel says it carried out the attack on Tuesday in response to Palestinian rocket fire.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a mosque in the occupied Al-Aqsa Mosque in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem. Last Sunday, at least 16 Palestinians were injured in a police raid on the premises of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem. Earlier, more than 150 people were injured in a clash there on Friday.

The Aqsa Mosque or Baitul Muqaddas is the third holiest place for Muslims around the world. And to the Jews it is known as Temple Mount. They also consider it as one of their holy places.

The Israeli military says a car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Baghdad. But Hamas claims it has responded to Israeli warplanes with air defenses.

A warning siren was sounded on Monday from a Hamas-controlled area in southern Israel, demanding a rocket attack. This is the first such incident since January.

The Israeli military says it has intercepted a rocket fired by Hamas using the Iron Dome air defense system. Hours later, the Israeli air force said it had fired rockets at a Hamas weapons factory.

Hamas, meanwhile, claims it has responded to Israeli airstrikes using air defenses. Eyewitnesses and Gaza security officials confirmed that there were no casualties.
