India clarifies its position

US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have held “open talks” on the ongoing Ukraine crisis. They took part in the virtual summit on Monday. However, India has maintained its neutral position on the Russian military operation in Ukraine. And the United States has not made much progress in removing India from its position. . . . . . . . .   . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This was stated in the report of the news agency AFP quoting the press conference held by the foreign ministers of the two countries after the talks between the two leaders.

At the end of the conference, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, “Putin needs to be pressured by all countries, especially those with vested interests, to end this war. At the same time, it is important for the countries that share democratic values to unite and speak with one voice to defend those values.

According to AFP, Biden did not make any demands on India, a strategic partner in the US plan to counter China’s growing influence in the Asia-Pacific region, in a virtual meeting with Narendra Modi, but indicated that India would join a united front on the Ukraine issue.

But White House spokeswoman Jane Sackie said otherwise. “Biden (Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi) has made it clear that he does not believe it is in India’s interest to speed up or increase Russia’s imports of energy and other products,” Saki told a news conference after the Biden-Modi meeting.

Western nations, including the United States, have imposed sanctions on Russia’s energy sector over the Ukraine war. However, India has continued to import oil from Russia. Although the United States has no problem with the issue, the country has said that Washington has objections to India’s further increase in oil imports from Russia.
