A French investigative magistrate has issued five international arrest warrants, according to a BBC report. In addition to Ghosn, the warrants were issued against four officials of a car dealership in Oman. The allegation against Ghosn is that he removed millions of euros or more than 1 million euros from Renault through Suhel Bahl Automobiles. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Ghosn used the money to buy a private yacht.

The BBC reports that Ghosn was accused of financial misconduct while fleeing Japan in 2019. Earlier in 2016, he was arrested on charges of financial misconduct. At the time, however, Ghosn denied all allegations against him.

The arrest warrant issued by the prosecutor’s office in the Paris suburb of Nantes is part of an investigation that has been going on for some time, Jean Tamalet, a lawyer for King & Spalding, a legal firm appointed to Ghosn, told the BBC. The lawyer added: “We believe this is just a technical measure. We will be able to solve it in the court in the future through law.

Since fleeing Japan, Ghosn has repeatedly said that Japan has made baseless allegations against him. Ghosn claims that he has been accused of financial irregularities to keep Nissan and Renault from merging.

In France, Ghosn has been under investigation for some time for a suspicious financial transaction. As part of that, Ghosn was interrogated at length in Beirut.

Ghosn, meanwhile, has been banned from leaving Lebanon. Because, at any time, the request to extradite him to Japan may come. Although Ghosn thinks Japan’s request is unlikely to be granted. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person.
